In commemoration of 100 years of the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), an International Cooperative Seminar was held at UL Cyberpark on 15th Oct ‘2024 and the 18th International Cooperative Alliance - Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP) Conference on Cooperative Research was jointly organised by ICA-AP, ULCCS and IIM-Kozhikode at IIM-Kozhikode
Themed “Cooperatives in the Next Industrial Revolution”,the 18th ICA-AP research conference brought together over 150 participants from 18 countries. Academics, cooperators, experts, scholars, and youth cooperative entrepreneurs convened to explore how cooperatives can address the pressing socio-economic challenges of our era.
The ULCCS Centenary Declaration outlines the following key points within the action plan
1. Comprehensive Skilling and Training
Advocate for cooperative-led skilling, upskilling, and training programs to ensure equitable growth for all.2. Empowering Cooperatives with Technology
Utilize digital tools to enhance cooperative member engagement and decision-making while preserving cooperative values and inclusivity.3. Support for New Cooperative Models
Promote the development of digital-native and platform cooperatives to meet the demands of Industry 4.0.4. Youth Inclusion and Entrepreneurship
Elevate youth participation in cooperatives through entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities.5. Sustainable Agriculture Roadmap
Create a cooperative-driven roadmap for sustainable agriculture and food security in Kerala, incorporating international best practices.6. Leveraging Kerala's Knowledge Economy
Utilize Kerala’s high human development indices, including its literacy and digital literacy, to boost cooperative initiatives and the knowledge economy.Looking Ahead: International Year of Cooperatives 2025
As we approach the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 designated by the United Nations, this declaration calls upon cooperatives globally to uphold the spirit of cooperation and work collectively to reimagine cooperative development. The IYC2025, themed "Cooperatives Build a Better World," will celebrate the significant contributions of cooperatives to global challenges and sustainable development. The initiative aims to highlight how cooperatives are essential in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, with a special focus on fostering inclusivity, fairness, and mutual benefit through innovative approaches to social and economic growth. This declaration is a testament to the cooperative movement’s resolve to harness the power of technology and collective action to shape a better socio-economic future for all.
